This section describes osCommerce Category Editing: how to create, edit or delete categories, how to manage category tree and to expand/collapse category tree.
From the toolbar and the context menu, you can perform the following basic operations:
1. Add new category calls blank Edit category form, which is used to create a new category. Edit category form description see below.
2. To edit category you can double click on it or use edit category button. It calls edit category form for highlighted category. Edit category form description see below.
3. You can delete selected category and its subcategories from your store . Pay attention that you won't be able to undo delete from store option unless you've made d-base backup.
Note: If you have products assigned to multiple osCommerce categories they will be removed not only from selected category but from the store completely!
4. To expand / collapse category tree use appropriate icons.
This section describes how to create or edit category, assign image, and add desctiption using WUSIWYG editor.
To create a new category or edit an existing one, proceed through several steps:
1. Click on create new or edit category icon.
2. In the Edit Category form specify the following data:
to browse contents of your local folders and select an image. When you press OK button on edit form it will be uploaded to "Images directory" on FTP. When local image selected, this field will display local image path like C:\My Images\some_image.jpg. But local image path will be replaced with image name some_image.jpg right after upload.
to select some image stored remotely. It's done by browsing contents of FTP folder specified as "Images directory".
to open Image Resize Rules window. You can add
or delete
rules if you need one.
3. Other tab shows you the category ID. Category ID is for internal use only. You cannot modify this field.
4. Extra fields tab allows you to manage your extra fields like category title, short description, keywords, full description, etc.
To edit extra fields you can double-click on any or use Edit as HTML button to make changes in HTML Editor.
Also, Extra fields tab content depends on additional contributions installed on your store. If there's a contribution that has any connection to category-related database fields, it will be shown on this page.
5. Click Ok to save this entry and to create category, or click cancel to discard this entry.
